The chemical composition and physical properties of jadeite

In mineralogy, jade is a rock composed of many tiny minerals. These small minerals are jadeite NaAl[Si2O6], sodium chromite pyroxene NaCr[Si2O6] and neolithic NaFe[Si2O6]. These three main minerals exist in different proportions, and mineralogy is called "classical in phase". Pure jadeite is colorless, while sodium chromite is mostly bright green, neon is mostly light green, and different jadeites contain different proportions, resulting in a wide variety of colors and textures. In addition to the above three minerals, there are also hornblende minerals, feldspar minerals, and even quartz, chromite, etc. in the jadeite. The surface of the jadeite will have minerals such as limonite, hematite and kaolinite. . The limonite and hematite are brownish red, red and yellow, which make the surface of the jade green and yellow, which the experts call "ç¿¡".

The proportion of jadeite is 3.24~3.43, and the proportion of gemstones is relatively high. Therefore, experts often use "hands on hand" to distinguish jade and quartz, glass jade counterfeit goods. Experts will say that they can feel it when they get started, jade is more pressing, and quartz counterfeit is lighter.

Jade has a Mohs hardness of 6.5 to 7, which is higher than the hardness of nephrite by 5.5, which is lower than the hardness of quartz 7. It is much lower than the highest hardness diamond (Mohs hardness of 10), but in all kinds of jade. The hardness of jadeite is the highest. However, there is an appraisal method in the folks that it is jadeite that can be used to move glass. It is not jade. In fact, this is wrong, because there is no jade that can be used to move glass. For example, nephrite can also touch the glass. Therefore, the index of hardness alone cannot be used for identification.

The toughness of jadeite is high, which is determined by its layered interweaving structure. Toughness is the property of gemstones against pressure and impact. Although the hardness of the diamond is the highest, but the toughness is not high, if the diamond ring worn on the hand collides with the hard object, if the direction of the force happens to be the same as the direction of the cleavage of the diamond, the crack of the diamond may occur. This extreme example shows that the hardest diamonds are not indestructible, but the tough jade can withstand a lot of pressure.
