The role of petrochemical industry

1. Petrochemical is the main supplier of energy

Petrochemicals mainly refers to gasoline, kerosene, diesel, heavy oil and natural gas produced by petroleum refining, which are the main suppliers of current major energy sources. China produced 80 million tons of fuel oil in 1995. At present, the world's oil and natural gas consumption accounts for about 60% of total energy consumption; China's consumption of coal is less than 20% due to large coal use. The energy provided by petrochemicals is mainly used as fuel for automobiles, tractors, airplanes, ships, boilers, and a small amount for civilian fuel. Energy is a factor that restricts the development of China's national economy. Petrochemicals consumes about 8.5% of total energy and should continuously reduce energy consumption.

2. Petrochemical is one of the pillars of the materials industry

Metal, inorganic non-metallic materials and polymer synthetic materials are called three major materials. The current production of polymer synthetic materials provided by petrochemicals worldwide is about 145 million tons. In 1996, China had more than 8 million tons. In addition to synthetic materials, petrochemicals also provide the vast majority of organic chemical raw materials. In the chemical industry, in addition to the chemical products provided by chemical minerals, the raw materials for petrochemical production are prominent in various sectors.

3. Petrochemical promotes the development of agriculture

Agriculture is the basic industry of our national economy. The nitrogen fertilizer provided by the petrochemical industry accounts for 80% of the total chemical fertilizer. The promotion and use of agricultural plastic film, together with the rational use of pesticides and the various types of fuels required by agricultural machinery, have formed the main force of the petrochemical industry to support agriculture.

4. Various industrial sectors are inseparable from petrochemical products

The development of the modern transportation industry is closely related to the fuel supply. It is no exaggeration to say that without the fuel, there would be no modern transportation industry. Metal processing and various types of machinery require various types of lubricating materials and other supporting materials without any exception, and consume a large amount of petrochemical products. The world's lubricating grease production is about 20 million tons, and China's about 1.8 million tons. The building materials industry is a new field of petrochemical products, such as plastics, doors and windows, flooring materials, and coatings are called chemical building materials. Light industry and textile industry are traditional users of petrochemical products. The development and promotion of new materials, new processes and new products are all examples of petrochemical products. At present, the fast-developing electronics industry and many high-tech industries have put forward new requirements for petrochemical products, especially fine chemical products produced from petrochemical products. This is a huge boost to the development of the petrochemical industry.

5. The construction and development of the petrochemical industry cannot be separated from the support of all walks of life.

Petrochemical enterprises at home and abroad are concentrated on building a number of production facilities to form a large petrochemical industrial zone. In the area, the refinery is a “faucet”, which provides cracking raw materials for petrochemical plants, such as light oil and diesel, and produces petrochemical products; the cracking unit produces basic petrochemical materials such as ethylene, propylene, benzene and xylene; The raw material is mainly a series of production equipment for the production of synthetic materials and organic raw materials, and its products and raw materials have a certain proportion. If an annual output of 300,000 tons of ethylene is required, roughly calculated, about 1.2 million tons of raw materials need to be cracked, corresponding to a processing capacity of about 2.5 million tons in the refinery, which can produce 80-900,000 tons of synthetic materials and basic organic raw materials. It can be seen that the construction of the petrochemical industrial zone requires a large amount of capital, and the site selection is appropriate, not only to ensure the transportation of raw materials and products, but also to have sufficient power, water supply and other supporting basic engineering facilities. Each production unit requires a large number of standard, qualitative machinery, equipment, instruments, piping and non-typed equipment. Manufacturing machinery and equipment involves a wide variety of materials, different requirements, some key equipment high speed of more than 50 meters, a single piece weight of several hundred tons; some require heat resistance of 1000 ° C, and some require cold resistance - 150 ° C. Some key equipment needs to be procured in the international market. All of these require metallurgical, electric power, machinery, instrumentation, construction, and environmental protection industries. The petrochemical industry is a technology-intensive industry. The determination of production methods and production processes, the selection, selection and manufacture of key equipment require a series of proprietary or unique technical standards, such as the introduction of foreign patents or technical fees. Therefore, only strengthen the basic disciplines, especially the research work in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, catalysis, chemical engineering, electronic computers, automation, etc., strengthen the training of relevant professional and technical personnel, so that they can master and adopt advanced scientific research results, and then cooperate With the relevant engineering technology, the petrochemical industry is likely to continue to develop and take a new step.
