US CPSC Implements Voluntary Recall of Jackets Made in China
On September 16, 2010, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Burlington Coat Factory issued a joint announcement regarding a voluntary recall of children's jackets and sportswear. The products were manufactured in China, Cambodia, and South Korea, and were available for sale in the United States as well. This recall affected a wide range of items sold between January 1995 and September 2009, with each item priced between $7 and $30.
The affected items included a variety of children’s clothing such as jackets and sweatshirts, which were sold not only in Burlington Coat Factory stores but also through other retail outlets across the country. According to the CPSC, approximately 10,000 units were impacted by this recall. The primary concern was the drawstring on the hood or back of the garments, which could pose a serious risk to children by potentially causing strangulation if caught on furniture or other objects.
Although no incidents or injuries have been reported so far, the CPSC strongly advised consumers to take immediate action. Parents were urged to check their children’s clothing for the presence of the problematic drawstring and remove it right away. Alternatively, customers could return the item to any Burlington Coat Factory location for a full refund.
This recall highlights the importance of ongoing product safety monitoring and consumer awareness. It also serves as a reminder for parents to regularly inspect their children’s clothing for potential hazards. By taking proactive steps, families can help prevent accidents and ensure a safer environment for their kids.
