The classic collared shirt is a staple piece in many women's wardrobes. Its timeless design makes it suitable for nearly every season, and it looks fantastic whether worn alone or layered. There are countless ways to style it, making it incredibly versatile.
However, finding the perfect collared shirt can be quite challenging. Achieving the ideal fit, color, and fabric often feels nearly impossible, which is why sewing your own can be such a rewarding experience. That’s why I’m thrilled to introduce you to our new Liesl + Co. Classic Shirt pattern!
While there are plenty of shirt patterns available, I felt the need to create one of my own. Over the years, I've focused heavily on designing core wardrobe essentials, and the classic collared shirt has been a missing piece in my collection—until now. Your feedback has also been a big motivator; many of you have been asking for this pattern!
Here are some of the features that make this pattern stand out:
- **Cup Sizes**: This pattern comes in three cup sizes—A/B, C, and D—to ensure a better fit. I’ve already done the full bust adjustment for you, so you can pick the size that suits you best and get started. I'll also guide you through adjusting the darts in an upcoming tutorial to achieve an even more personalized fit.
- **Two-Piece Collar**: Many of you have expressed interest in a two-piece collar, and here it is! Our Gallery Tunic + Dress pattern offers a one-piece collar, but the classic collarband and collar design of this pattern are hard to beat. The pattern also includes a separate collar facing to help you achieve a polished look.
- **Detailed Instructions**: The sewing instructions are thorough and well-illustrated, combining my research and some of the best tips I’ve gathered over the years. These techniques will help you achieve great results without much hassle. As always, we’ll walk you through each step to ensure it’s not intimidating.
- **Classic Details**: The pattern includes a classic sleeve cuff and tower placket, similar to what you’d find in high-quality shirts. You can even add a contrasting fabric or color to the underside of the placket for a delightful surprise, as seen in the photo below. The cuff also has a separate facing for a perfect fit, allowing for contrast colors or fabrics.
- **Pocket Options**: Two distinct pocket styles are included—a classic workshirt-style pocket and a pleated safari-inspired pocket with a flap that hides a button. These small details add so much fun to the design. You can even mix and match these options to create different styles from this single pattern.
- **Lengthen and Shorten Lines**: Everyone has their own preference for shirt length. With these lines, customizing the pattern to fit your body perfectly is a breeze.
